Basic Education Development program in Yemen
Location: Yemen
Funder: USAID Yemen
Duration: 2004-2009
Though there are an increasing number of donors operating in selected districts throughout Yemen, public education services remain of low quality and are poorly distributed.
In order to improve the accessibility and quality of services in the five most under-served governorates, the three-year YALA project will pursue an integrated holistic approach to programming, planning and implementation, particularly at the school and community levels.
The project will utilize a cross-cutting integration of gender equity approaches, with a focus on four major areas of education:
1. Access to and quality of primary education in the public sector
2. Literacy and numeracy
3. Physical environment for learning
4. Parental involvement in education.
