Frederick S. Humphries
Dr. Humphries is regent professor at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee. After his distinguished tenure as president of the university from 1985 to 2002, he became president and CEO of the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education. Earlier he served as a member of NAFEO’s board and as its chairman.
From 1974 to 1985, he was president of Tennessee State University in Nashville. Dr. Humphries has made significant contributions to improving African Americans’ access to higher education, particularly in mathematics and science, and to strengthening historically black colleges and universities. During his tenure as program director at the Institute for Services to Education, from 1968 to 1974, he provided curriculum development and planning devices to institutions of higher education.
Dr. Humphries chaired the state board of education advisory committee on the education of blacks in Florida and the Five-Year Working Group for Agriculture for the board of regents of Florida’s state university system. He has served on the boards of Wal-Mart, Education Alternatives, Inc., Princeton Review, and Brinker International, Inc.
